The Stoned Immaculate

29 Nov

The mad lights burn furiously,

In strange hues of red, white and blue.
Cars go by; horning angrily
Desperate to get from disappointment to disappointment
Pain looms large in the atmosphere
Creeping up behind the wry traveller;
Strangling him and teaching him sorrow-
He has learnt the ways of the stoned immaculate.
“By lord” cries he
“Show me the steps that lead me to heaven”
The stoned immaculate as he is;
See’s a blinding light coming from down the road
Red, White and Blue.
The stoned immaculate thanks the immaculate conceiver
He is on his knees; tears in his eyes.
His body heats up.
The light gets closer all the while.
It is there it has reached him.
The stoned immaculate has been found.
He is draped in the flag of red white and blue.
A killer and yet immaculate.
The moment of revelation gone.
A killer waiting for the end.
Mislead by the stoned immaculate.
Fooled- fallen prey to patrol car.
Immaculate and yet so willy
The traveller a prisoner.
The killer the victim.
The stoned immaculate…
Emancipated by the heavenly emancipator.
Sent wandering once again.
Set loose like a genie in a bottle
A spirit from a body.
Free…free as the immaculate spirit it is
Searching; Hunting; Destroying
Those beyond Emancipation;
Bonded by the iron chains of their vice
No escape from the immaculate
As it covers the depths and breadth of earth
The stoned immaculate;
Lo and behold
Forever finding itself in a timeless duty
Crossing the boundaries of perfection
Meeting with itself where parallel lines meet
The stoned immaculate all pervading and all powerful
And yet; Born from the crimes of the vice
Satan’s son and Heaven’s worker
Itself in iron chains
The price of immaculation.
The stoned immaculate
An idea; A being; A state of mind
Deep within
Lost with the secrets of time
A gift received for a split second
Long enough to last a life time
The clarity to see the light
The sense to give it all up
The stoned immaculate
A soul stealer
A good-doer
A child of Satan,
It is all these
And yet it is none of these
It is Immaculate.

Possessed Eyes

19 Nov

She took a step,

walked into darkness.
An evening gown flowing
flawless, each step closer.
The glass in hand, dropped.
Crashing. Motionless. Dripping wine.
In free fall, a life worth saving.
Those eyes…possessed.
Looking into them.
Black as a ravens back.
The darkness playing tricks.
A smile or perhaps better,
a frown, anger and happiness spreading.
Dark and light clashing.
Only one winner.
Those eye, the judges.
Hell bent on dark
And so it was.
The glass back in hand,
gravity and sense immaterial.
Knew her well but never did.
Takes a sip. Drowned in red.
Those eyes, possessed by an ancient charm.
Sinking into darkness what does no harm.

Born Knowing

15 Nov

In the heights and depths of profundity,
Lay wrapped in a blanket of emotions,
A baby.
This baby, born with a special gift
Its tears told stories,
Its gibberish, destinies.

The baby was born in a paradox,
It knew all and it knew nothing at all.
It neither grew wiser nor taller.
Like mere showpieces it lay where it did.
In a cradle of creation.

Born knowing, into a lineage unlike its own.
Its eyes had never opened to see the world which was its prison.
And in this darkness, drooled the drops of history.

First the world was flat,
It became then so soon round.
Without questioning it accepted.
The baby was born knowing all that man ever knew.

Does this thing called ‘man’ know all?
Or is he deluded; rather knows nothing at all.
This baby: Mankind. A race unlike its own.
Raised to destroy itself.

The baby in its cradle, awakened.
Split into three; the fates.
The creator arises. Lifts the cradle.
And with a hush its off.
A civilisation is built.

The preserver, gets to work.
Civilisations given gifts.
Preserved for posterity.
The preserver has done his job.

And when the going gets tough,
The destroyer is up and about.
Nothing has remained.
This little baby, its skin bright with hope.
Is all these three.
Is it born knowing?

Jamnabai Narsee Youth for Environmental Sustainability

An Organization that endeavoured to raise awareness about the conservation and scarcity of water and various other issues in our local community. SOuL worked under JNYES and setup vermi-compost pits in local schools and societies. We also campaigned extensively in malls to spread the message of conservation on World Water Day 2012. JNYES was an incredibly successful organisation the management of which is credited to the students of Jamnabai who persevered in their efforts to bring about change.

Asha Kiran Charitable Trust

The Asha Kiran Charitable Trust is a NGO that runs street schools on the footpaths of Mumbai suburbs. Children living in the vicinity avail of these schools. The schools are free and run by volunteers. They cater to different age groups but primarily for primary and middle school children. As part of SOuL, we taught English to the children studying on the pavement at Versova over a period of one year. Along with teaching them english, we also taught them the basics of math and the sciences. While conversing with some of the volunteers who worked with these children we began realising how fortunate some of us had been. In our time at this school, we became great friends and mentors to the students and some of us even had the esteemed opportunity to meet their families and visit their homes. It was indeed a moulding experience.
